On February 13, 2018, more than 25 students of the Law Department of Ala-Too International University attended a guest lecture on the theme “How online resources help you find legal information?” Meder Dastanbekov, Rule of Law Program Officer of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program (CGP), conducted a guest lecture, where he told students about access to legal information, legal aid and other resources available for receiving such legal assistance.

The lecturer noted that in Kyrgyzstan every citizen has the right to access for free legal aid, which is available through the state-guaranteed legal aid system. Meder Dastanbekov informed students about the map of legal service providers at www.legalmap.gov.kg and online database of legal acts and court decisions at www.sot.kg, and demonstrated features of the websites. During the lecture, students also learned that online resources had been designed to improve access to judicial acts and facilitate the search for legal service providers for citizens of the country. The participants were also familiarized with activities of Free Legal Aid Centers (FLACs) established at the initiative of the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic. Currently, 17 such FLACs have been providing legal consultations to citizens countrywide.
