On April 19, 2018, the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the support of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program (CGP), inaugurated Free Legal Aid Centers (FLACs) in the city of Naryn and in Kochkor village of Naryn Oblast. These centers provide free legal consultations to citizens, including the rural population and vulnerable groups, and increase the public’s knowledge of human rights and available resources to improve access to justice. The USAID CGP is assisting the Ministry of Justice in its initiative to increase the availability of legal aid and previously supported the opening of four FLACs, including in Isfana and Kadamjay in Batken Oblast, and in Jalal-Abad city and Bazar-Korgon village in Jalal-Abad Oblast. The USAID CGP also provides technical assistance to improve the quality of the legal services provided by the 20 existing FLACs around the country.
