Bishkek - On June 14, over 20 representatives from the Ombudsman’s Institute, including its regional representatives, participated in a training on State-Guaranteed Legal Aid (SGLA) and interviewing techniques.

The participants highlighted the importance of interaction between the Ombudsman’s Institute and the Free Legal Aid Centers (FLACs) to provide targeted, timely, and quality legal assistance to the most vulnerable groups of the population. In particular, the Ombudsman’s representative, Mr. Samat Kalchabaev noted: “It would be easier if people could access the FLAC lawyers through a hot-line and receive a quick legal consultation, because people, especially from the suburbs, often cannot travel to the FLACs for consultations.”

During the training, the participants also learned how to interview clients and provide quality consultations to citizens with different legal problems, including victims of domestic violence.

The Ministry of Justice’s SGLA Coordination Center organized the training with the support of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program.
