On February 18, 2016, over 40 students from Kyrgyz National University (KNU) and Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU), 4 professors and 8 representatives of CSOs attended the guest lecture of Shamil Ibragimov, Executive Director of “Soros-Kyrgyzstan” Foundation on “The Role of the Nonprofit Sector in Country Development” hosted at the Nonprofit Management (NPM) Resource Center, KNU. Shamil Ibragimov shared information about the programs being currently implemented by “Soros-Kyrgyzstan” Foundation in Kyrgyzstan and emphasized the support that the foundation offers to civil society in the country. An important issue for discussion was the degree of interaction between the state, civil society and business and Mr.Ibragimov highlighted the need of a dialogue between the three sectors to ensure social and economic stability in the country. Other issues of discussion included gender equality, and practical support of the Soros Foundation to nonprofit organizations in Kyrgyzstan.
