On October 24, 2016, NPM Resource Center at KNU hosted a guest lecture of Peace Corps Volunteer John Satterfield-Doerr on “Specificity, Time, and Outreach: My Experiences Working in Kyrgyzstan”. Over 30 students and 3 KNU faculty members attended the guest lecture. The lecture was focused on international volunteers’ involvement into a local community and its integration process, as well as expectations of every member and community as a whole. Mr. Doerr explained the role of different actors that made the work of one Peace Corps Volunteer possible in Toktogul: US Peace Corps through bringing him to the country and providing preliminary language, cultural and trainings for trainers (TOT); national and local authorities through assistance with infrastructure and social support; local schools through providing space and organizational support; individuals – teachers and students –through participating and contributing their time, experience and knowledge. Lecturer explained in a simple and comprehensive terms how each of us can prepare and implement a successful event in any field starting with the answer to the basic questions “who, what, when, where” and continued efficient use of his/her resources available – social relations, ideas, space and time. John Doerr noted: “I need to give them [members of the Toktogul community] assistance, knowledge and ideas so when I leave, they don’t need me”
