Over 40 students and faculty members attended a guest lecture on the theme “Advancing Gender Equality for the Benefit of Human Development in the Kyrgyz Republic: Career and Marriage Choices of the Kyrgyzstani Youth” of Gerald Gunther, Representative of UN Women Country Office in the Kyrgyz Republic at the Nonprofit Management Resource Centre, Osh State University. The lecture was assisted by Dildora Khamidova, specialist for Southern Region of UN Women Kyrgyzstan. The lecture covered the main directions of the work of the UN Women in Kyrgyzstan aimed at advancing gender equality for the benefit of human development of the Kyrgyz Republic. Mr. Gerald Gunther talked about good practices on gender equality and major areas of human development based on the context of the Kyrgyz Republic as well as abroad. He noted that compared to other Central Asian countries Kyrgyzstan has achieved considerable successes in promoting gender equality practices.

Dildora Khamidova presented the findings of her research on the perception of society to gender issues and highlighted the negative impact of cultural, social, educational and economic factors to empowerment of young women in Kyrgyzstan, and talked about the possibilities and conditions necessary to enable young women to expand and exercise their rights and opportunities.
