At the press conference in Osh, the Public Fund "Women Support Centre” announced the results of the monitoring the implementation of Article 155 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, which was conducted to determine how respective state agencies were implementing the adopted amendments to the law in 2013 that increased legal liability for abduction of women, and stipulates from 5 to 7 years of imprisonment for bride kidnapping. According to the Criminal Procedure Code, these cases relate to a public prosecution. This means that every witness of the violent abduction of women has the right to apply to the law enforcement bodies with the statement about the crime.

As a result of monitoring, experts recommended to conduct systematic educational work among the population by government bodies and media, provide access to statistical data on bride kidnapping to public via media and other channels, provide women and girls information on their rights to education, reproductive health issues and the right for free choice of a spouse.

The Women Support Centre, in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Kyrgyz Republic, PF "Adamzad Den-Soolugu" and PF "Men Against Violence", with the support of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program, conducted monitoring from August to November 2016 of the implementation of Article 155 and its amendments.
