On April 28, 2017, the Supreme Court held a round table on "Openness and transparency of the judicial system" devoted to judicial reform in Kyrgyzstan for media representatives.

During the round table, the Supreme Court informed journalists about the work of the Court on ensuring openness and transparency of the judicial system, including the functions of the website www.sot.kg.

The Chairman of the Supreme Court, Ainash Tokbaeva, noted: “One of the main goals of judicial reform is to achieve openness and transparency in the judicial system. Judicial reform is aimed at strengthening the rule of law, improving the efficiency and quality of justice, securing the guarantees of judicial protection of human rights and freedoms in accordance with international human rights standards.”

To achieve these goals, in 2012, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic issued a Decree “On measures to improve justice in the Kyrgyz Republic” and, as a result, a number of laws were amended, including the Criminal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Penal Enforcement Code, Code of Misdemeanors, Code of Civil Procedure, Code of Administrative Procedure, law"On the Status of Bailiffs and on Enforcement Proceedings", and "On State-Guaranteed Legal Aid".

Representative of the USAID-IDLO Program on Strengthening the Judiciary System in the Kyrgyz Republic, Nurlan Duysheev, familiarized the participants with the opportunities and functions of the website www.sot.kg, and how this resource might be useful in journalists’ daily work. The website www.sot.kg was developed to ensure openness and publicity of the activities of the judiciary system by publishing all decisions and court proceedings of the local courts and the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic. Also, when journalists asked about the judges' obligation to publish their decision, it was noted that all local courts are obliged to publish information about court proceedings and court decisions in accordance with the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On access to information held by state bodies and local self-government bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic" # 213 dated December 28, 2016.

The Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic initiated the roundtable with the support of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program implemented by East West Management Institute and USAID-IDLO Judicial Strengthening Program in the Kyrgyz Republic.
