On June 13, 2017, the staff of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program (CGP) conducted a workshop on project monitoring and evaluation and grant budgeting for the representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs) in Naryn.

Participants of seminar learned the essentials of monitoring and evaluation in projects. In addition, they discussed the main differences between monitoring and evaluation of projects, reviewed the problems that are often faced by public organizations in filing grant applications and further implementation of their projects. Trainer noted that effective evaluation provides the broad audience of stakeholders with information that can be used to make better decisions, gain deeper understanding and create new ideas.

The second important problem, when working with grantees, are financial reports and project budgeting. CGP Grants Administrative and Compliance Officer Meergul Sulaimanova told about how to avoid problems and what is important to pay attention while maintaining financial procedures. “During the planning phase, it is important to develop a project budget, the goals of which are to link income and expenses to specific project activities / events and calendar dates, which are very important to follow. We also need to know that each donor has its own requirements for financial documents.” - said Meergul.

All the theoretical and practical examples discussed at the workshop were taken from practical experience of the USAID Collaborative Governance Program.
